Results....not so good.

This past Sunday, I decided to attend opening day at Toronto Motorsports Park. My goal was to try and get some baseline 1/4 mile ETs & speeds before I did the engine, chassis, and suspension upgrades. Well, let's just say, it wasn't too successful.

I got to the track around 11:15 AM. There was already alot of people there for opening day. I headed for Tech, go through in about 10 mins, then proceeded to the staging lanes. It wasn't too long after that I was staging the car, and at this point not really knowing what to expect. The car in the next lane was some Honda ricer.

As I was staging, I decided I was going to try and launch at about 2000 RPM. Well, that didn't work out. The tires simply did not want to grab, even after I short shifted in 2nd I was still spinning the tires. Once it did hook up I head down the track, still beat the ricer by the 1/8 then went to shift from 3rd to 4th....OOPSS....missed it and hit 2nd. Although the shifter didn't engage into 2nd, it did a wicked kick in the whole drivetrain that did not sound pleasant.

Second run; Try leaving at 1500 RPM. Somewhat better, but still only got a 2.45 second 60ft time which sucks. I only managed a 14.6 sec pass, but at a good 103.4 MPH which means the engine is making some pretty decent power. ET should be closer to 13.2s, not 14.6s. Plenty of power, just no traction.

The other 3 passes were garbage. The car started acting up with carb problems; stumbling, farting, etc almost like it had enough for a day. I'm 99% sure it was a fuel issue. Today, I will be working on the Edelbrock carb. I will adjust the floats and the plunger, and see if that helps. I will try and head for another Tune & Test session on Saturday and see if I can get better results.

Then on Sunday, I'm leaving for Sudbury to my parents place. My dad and I will be doing the upgrades. I just hope everything goes as planned, but it usually doesn't. I will be takin gplenty of pictures to add to the site.
