Results....not so good.

This past Sunday, I decided to attend opening day at Toronto Motorsports Park. My goal was to try and get some baseline 1/4 mile ETs & speeds before I did the engine, chassis, and suspension upgrades. Well, let's just say, it wasn't too successful.

I got to the track around 11:15 AM. There was already alot of people there for opening day. I headed for Tech, go through in about 10 mins, then proceeded to the staging lanes. It wasn't too long after that I was staging the car, and at this point not really knowing what to expect. The car in the next lane was some Honda ricer.

As I was staging, I decided I was going to try and launch at about 2000 RPM. Well, that didn't work out. The tires simply did not want to grab, even after I short shifted in 2nd I was still spinning the tires. Once it did hook up I head down the track, still beat the ricer by the 1/8 then went to shift from 3rd to 4th....OOPSS....missed it and hit 2nd. Although the shifter didn't engage into 2nd, it did a wicked kick in the whole drivetrain that did not sound pleasant.

Second run; Try leaving at 1500 RPM. Somewhat better, but still only got a 2.45 second 60ft time which sucks. I only managed a 14.6 sec pass, but at a good 103.4 MPH which means the engine is making some pretty decent power. ET should be closer to 13.2s, not 14.6s. Plenty of power, just no traction.

The other 3 passes were garbage. The car started acting up with carb problems; stumbling, farting, etc almost like it had enough for a day. I'm 99% sure it was a fuel issue. Today, I will be working on the Edelbrock carb. I will adjust the floats and the plunger, and see if that helps. I will try and head for another Tune & Test session on Saturday and see if I can get better results.

Then on Sunday, I'm leaving for Sudbury to my parents place. My dad and I will be doing the upgrades. I just hope everything goes as planned, but it usually doesn't. I will be takin gplenty of pictures to add to the site.

Spring has sprung....well, almost.

Howdy everyone...yea it's been awhile again.

Car Update

OK, here's the latest update; Things have slowed down financially lately so that means projects have to slow down also. The paint job is going to be put on the back burner for this year. As far as the rest of the car updates, for the most part it is still a go.

By Wednesday (April 5) I will have my new Jim Wildgoose Street/Strip QJet carb, CompCam pushrods, valve locks, timing set and gaskets. Those will finish up the camshaft change parts. Now it looks like hood clearance is still on issue with the Performer RPM intake because of the high ride design. I will know more by Wednesday what my options are for the intake.

Racing Update

This past Sunday was the Canadian Automobile Sports Club (CASC) Open House which I attented. I finally met a lot of people that to that point only knew as an alias on the various forums. I was actually amazed at how my people were there.

On Tueday March 28, I signed up online with Toronto Autosports Club (TAC). A club is required to run in any CASC Regional event. TAC looked like they had a pretty big membership and very well run. It was also the closest to my location. I met Russ and Robert at the Open House on Sunday, and also picked up my "care" package for the club.

After dealing with my TAC membership, I proceeded to the HADA Motorsports Club section to pay for my April 29th AutoCross Driving Class that they are putting on. Yea, I need to get an idea of what I'm doing don't I?

Right next to HADA was the Western Ontario Sports Car Association. WOSCA is responsbile for me being interested in this sport since I saw it for the first time at one of their events in September 2005 in Woodstock. Behind the table was Marshall McLean who is the backbone of WOSCA. I introduced myself and we had a brief chat and told him I'd be making a few of their club events since it was a close drive for me.

My next stop was the CASC-OR Solo 2 table to sign up, paid my $30 for the season, and lock in my car number which is #15 (same as my sim racing that I've used for 4+ years). Everything went smoothly, got my T-Shirt, and moved on.

My next step was tracking down someone from SoloSprint (Solo 1) and see if we could resolve a classification issue I had. The issue; since my 1986 Z28 only had a factory 165 HP, that initially put me in the Touring2 (T2) class. Well, since I now have 360+HP and some suspension mods, my new class would be SuperGrandTouring 3 (SGT3), which moves me up 6 classes. Rules say that if you move up 5+ classes, you required to have a roll cage installed in the car. Well, that was not acceptable to me since 3rd Gen Camaros (1982-1992) had up to 245 HP in the early 90s with everything else the same. If I had a 1992 IROC Z then I'd only be moving up 3 classes. I tracked down Dave Barker which is one of the guys on the classification committee for SoloSprint and along with another guy (don't know his name) we came up with a solution; Since the engine in my car was swapped with a 1991 truck engine which had factory 210 HP, my starting class would now be GT4. With that said, that means I'm only jumping 4 classes and eligible to run in SoloSprint events without a roll cage...Sweet! :) I didn't sign up for any Solo 1 events at this point. The first event isn't until June 10 so it gives me breathing room to see how the car runs at Solo 2 events, and how comfortable I am in doing so. Not to mention that Solo 1 events are $130 to register. ;(

All the local dragstips are in the process of opening, including my home track Toronto Motorsports Park (TMP) which is opening up this Sunday (April 9th) for a Tune & Test/Swap Meet. If the weather holds up, I plan to be there to try the car out, and get some baseline numbers before I do the cam & induction swap. When I attented the "driver's meeting" March 25th, I also signed up for the TMP Summit ET points series in Street class. I'm hoping to make 90% of the events as long as there is no equipment breakage.

I'm hoping to get to DL Motorsports again within the next couple weeks and do a couple more dyno runs to see if anything changed since I redid the jetting on the carb, and changed the timing. I will be bringing in my carb setup kit and timing light with me at this session and see if I can improve anything.
